However, as boys get older their tastes trend more towards watches that depict their favorite sports or teams.

Kids tend to be very hard on their watches and no matter how basic or fancy a watch you buy it has got to stand up to the abuse. Look for watches with strong bands and cases that are sealed against the elements, water resistant watches are good, but waterproof to a depth of 50 feet or more is even better. You want the watch you buy to last as long as possible so perhaps investing just a little more might be well worth the extra money in the long run.
