Choose the Right Watch for Your Boy
Every boy deserves to have his own watch, however with so many to choose from it can be difficult to choose the right watch for your boy. For most boys getting their first real watch is a very important step in growing up. Most kids will have had cheap little watches that come free in boxes of cereal or as giveaway items from restaurants like McDonalds as part of a Happy Meal, but when you buy them a real watch no matter how young or old they are, you instantly make them feel more grown up. Even your boy is still learning to tell the time getting his own watch can be the first step in growing up.
Boys Watches are Not Like they used to be
Until the last few years the typical boy's watch was a very basic watch that was made to withstand the use and abuse the typical child would put it through. Because of this the typical boys watch of not so long ago featured a very simple white face with an hour hand, a minute hand and on occasion a second hand, all assembled in a simple cases with a good strong band.
Not so today as there are dozens of different watches aimed at different age groups that do far more than just tell the time. Many of them have built in stop watches, timers and alarms just like those made for adults. They are easy to read and simple to operate as well as being far more accurate than the watches most of us wore when we were kids and with batteries instead of a spring there is no fear of breaking them by over winding.
Picking the Perfect Match
The first thing you need to take into consideration is the age of the boy you are buying the watch for. There are several different character watches made for the under 10 boy that while being perfect for this age group would never work for those over the age of 10. An example of this would be the hottest sellers this year, which is the line of Ben 10 watches. There are 4 different watches in the series, starting with the F/X which is a good basic digital watch that has flashing lights and sound effects drawn from the TV show. This the perfect starter watch for those ages 5 and under as it is sturdily built and has a big display.
At the other end of the spectrum is the Omnitrix that has 2 levels of built in video game. Your boy has to choose the right alien to battle the evil Vilgax, he only has 10 seconds to dial in the right alien for the task and win the fight. This watch is ideal for the 7-9 age group and also has flashing lights and sound effects.
Once your child outgrows these styles of watch you will need to match the watch you buy more closely to their age. After boy reach the age of 10 or so they are looking for a watch that makes them look and feel a little more grown up, perhaps a sports watch or one of the new adventure watches that are built to withstand the rough treatment that boys that age tend to put everything they own through. By the time a boy reaches his teens you can probably buy him any style of adult watch that you think might suit his personality.
At any age the most important thing to consider is the personality of the boy you are buying the watch for, after all you would not want to buy a Ben 10 watch for the boy who does not like the television show any more than you would buy one for a teenager. Pay attention to the boy's tastes and you will be able to buy him the perfect watch and give him a gift he will always remember for a very long time.
